Sprocket’s September Reading List

Sprocket didn’t read as much this month because he was so busy exploring the Miao House and hippity-hopping about without his donut.

September Reading List

1. The Third Story Cat by Leslie Baker – A lovely calico has an adventure in the park and makes a new friend. Simple text, soft watercolors, perfect reading for the house-kitty who dreams of the outdoors but would rather stay curled up in a fleecy window seat.

2. Smudge’s Grumpy Day by Miriam Moss – A fun board book perfect for the grumpy day that every kitten is bound to have now and then. Sprocket has not had a grumpy day since he graduate from his collar. A gift from my brother.

3. Whinnie the Lovesick Dragon by Mercer Mayer and illustrated by Diane Dawson Hearn – A dragon falls in love with a silly knight who doesn’t return her feelings. Will she win his heart? The story ends with a delightful twist, but the most delightful part of the book is the detailed illustrations and their hidden surprises. One of my absolute childhood favorites. My copy is autographed by the author, which makes me wonder if I was attending book signings at the age of four.

4. Cricket magazine

5. Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino – Sprocket started this last month and while some of the content and imagery is a little difficult for him to grasp, he is doing a remarkable job of getting through the book.

Lol. I see Sprocket took time out from story time to nom on Chun’s tail!

  2. Mr. Guilt says:

Have you checked out any of the “Ginger” series of books:

    http://www.amazon.com/Ginger-Charlotte-Voake/dp/140631269X/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1317672887&sr=1-1

The original one reminded us of Maggie and Eddy. Ginger Finds a Home was also a bit like Maggie’s tale. Definitely worth a look.

  3. Lurkertype says:

He should be a spokeskitty for Cricket!

  4. Laurie says:

Chun’s beleaguered tail gets no peace at all, even during quiet time.

  5. Sprocket is reading Italo Calvino? Wow, he reads better books than me. So when does he start college? Did you put him in AP Literature yet?

    • littlemiao says:

Yes, he is already in AP Lit, but he wanted to choose a book from the college reading list. The passages are short and the tone is conversational, but there are some big words for him to grow into. Also, there are no pictures, so it is slower. His next goal: to read Italo Calvino in the original Italian.
