A Snowbun

The bunny (or more properly, Arctic hare) looks so perfectly round.  If it weren't for the black ear tips, it would be completely indistinguishable from its surroundings.  In the winter, they have to dig through snow to find woody plants, lichen, and moss to eat.  *sigh* Life is tough for wild buns.

Oh! Oh! This is what I saw on my horsey ride in Sweden!!! Of course I couldn't get a pic of it, but they are HUGE!!! The guide showed us the tracks, whcih were allllll over, but she said you don't usually see them because of the horses and the dogs and of course the people coming. But I kept looking, and finally i saw tracks that looked really fresh, and followed them with my eye, and there he was! He sat there frozen (so to speak…) for a couple seconds and then took off!!! Big black eyes & black tipped earses, just like this. But not all scrunched down & round. But BIG, I could tell that just from the tracks it was gonna be big. They turn brown in the spring/summer, of course.

    A SNOWBALL!!!!

  5. jaypo says:

He doesn't even look disapproving!! Not a lot to disapprove of except snow and ice…

  6. little miao says:

do you mean that ironically, jaypo? 😉 some would think that snow and ice is more than enough to disapprove of (not me, of course, i love the snow). but i'll defer to a bun expert like yourself on whether this snowball-bun qualifies as a Disapproving Rabbit or not.

  7. little miao says:

Awww, you should be an expert bunny tracker, cranky, sniffing out the fresh tracks in the snow-swept tundras of the north.

  8. Lauri says:

Oh, isn't this the most breathtaking picture? The light is so beautiful!Cheers to cranky for spotting the snowball bun!!! So many people would totally miss one even if it were sitting right in front of them! How fun to see him!

  9. crankypants says:

I think I willed that sucker to show up, I wanted to see one so baaaaaad!

  10. e2c says:

Y'think? I pegged that as a truly disdainful look, and think Arctic hares have taken lagomorphical disapproval to a whole new plane.Beautiful photo, BTW.

  11. Aubrey says:

The phrase 'icy disapproval' plays well here.
    Still.
The round bunniness of it all!
